Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Program
Arkana College annually hosts a group of Indonesian visitors through the ‘Australia-Indonesia Muslim Exchange Program’ (MEP). This year, the MEP did include five emerging Indonesian Muslim leaders from a range of different backgrounds, many of whom are active in the field of education.
During their visit to Arkana, they toured the school, meet with some students, and engaged in discussion with myself and other staff members about Arkana’s approach to education and the experience of being an Islamic school in Australia.
The group included Mrs Niswatin Faoziah, Head of Primary Education at Sunan Panandaran College of Islamic Studies, Yogyakarta and a senior member of the national women’s organisation Fatayat NU, Mrs Nurjanni Astiyanti, a school guidance counsellor, and staff member responsible for women’s empowerment for the Indonesian Muslim Students’ Association, Mrs Oki Setiana Dewi, an actress in Islamic films and religious television presenter, Mr Prosmala Hadisaputra, Head of Diniyah Education at Selaparang Islamic Boarding School, Lombok, and Mr Syamsul Arif Galib, a lecturer in Islamic Studies and teacher with Kelas Berbagi, a program which seeks to increase access to quality education for primary school students in rural areas.
