Message from the Principal

Dear Parents, Guardians and Members of our Community

Assalamu alaykum Wa Rahmutallah wa Barakatuhu

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Arkana College to you. The vision of our school is to empower students to become knowledgeable, confident, and value-driven Australian Muslim leaders in the global community. Our mission is to deliver quality education to students in an Islamic environment through:

  • Dynamic, engaging and innovative teaching methods,
  • A nurturing school setting, and
  • Instilling positive values throughout everything we do.

We have six values which we strive to achieve with our students and the students/staff achieve them in the following manner:

ADAB (MANNERS)

I will role model the Prophet (saw)
I will treat others with kindness

CONFIDENCE

I believe in myself and acknowledge the achievements of others
I uplift and inspire others

EMPOWERMENT

I take part in all activities to reach my full potential
I push myself to do great things and stretch my comfort zone

GENEROSITY

I help others and encourage others to support one another
I am compassionate, loving and empathetic

INTEGRITY

I always do the right thing and I encourage others to do the right thing
I am trustworthy and I role model trustworthiness and honesty

RESPONSIBILITY

I think of ways to do things better and I always educate in the best way possible
I take ownership of my actions and I encourage others to do their best

We work alongside the students and parents and examine our pedagogy in light of the needs of our students. Combined with our collegial nature, enthusiasm and dedication, we provide students with quality learning experiences and excellence in education.

Additionally, we provide our students with a rich extracurricular program including interfaith activities that allow our students to engage with others from various ethnic and religious backgrounds. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in choir, drama, debating and sporting competitions. Our aim is to prepare our students to succeed as lifelong learners who are constructive members of the Australian society whilst still proud of their Islamic heritage and identity.

Furthermore, we provide our students with a robust sports program. Our students get the opportunity to represent the school in various sports against other schools in the ASISSA program. Our students also get the opportunity to participate in specific programs such as Gymnastics, a myriad of Indoor/Outdoor Sports, Dance and Swim School in addition to physical education lessons planned for by individual grade teachers.

We aim to set high standards at the school. We do everything possible to prepare our students academically and intellectually for their future lives. We have established a strong partnership between the school, home and community and this partnership has worked extremely well in educating the children.

Spiritual development is also essential to complete the learning process of not only the child but any person in general. We teach students Arabic, Quran and Islamic Studies in order to facilitate this spiritual development. Receiving this Islamic education will prepare students for all events in their lives because they can find the answers to all their questions in the Quran and teachings (Hadith) of the Prophet Mohammed pbuh.

In Quran students learn to recite and memorise various passages and then study the meanings of those passages so that they gain a better understanding of the Islamic faith. Islamic Studies emphasises the life and traditions of the Prophet Mohammed pbuh. In this subject students learn about the Hadith (teachings of the Prophet pbuh), Sunnah (lifestyle of the Prophet pbuh), Tarbiya (manners/etiquette) and Islamic culture (history/geography/significant events). Arabic caters for different levels and aims to facilitate an understanding of the Arabic language (including reading/writing and grammar), the language of the Holy Quran.

Students at Arkana College are valued as individuals who have a right to academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual nourishment.

Kind regards
Wassalam
